Shimla – the name just brings fond memories of snow caped mountain peaks, lakkad bazaar, alluring green meadows, pleasant climate; I can go on and on. Yes, it’s true that modernisation and industrialization has shown an impact on the hills, but still you can do a lot of things while in Shimla. There is something mystical in Shimla that I can never turn down an offer to visit the “Queen of Hills”. So, when the friends insisted to celebrate my birthday over there, what more could I ask for? Once a place for adventure sports during British rule, this place is now a haven for golf enthusiasts and players. Racecourse has been converted into a mini golf course and offers beautiful scenery of the place besides also acting as a helipad.

3. Jakhoo Hills

One of the major tourist attractions in Shimla, Jakhu hill is situated at a height of around 8000 feet and attracts people for its temples, scenic beauty and above all trekking. The 108 feet tall statue of Lord Hanuman gets people offering prayers from all walks of life. The trekking is a short distance and it is advisable to take it up only during the day as it gets quite dark by evening. For the nature lovers, one must to visit site is the Himalayan Bird Park. It is open only in summers( we were the lucky ones!) and you can spot both native and exotic birds in the premises. The park opens its gates for all at 10:00 AM and remains open until 6:00PM.

The winter sports capital, a popular name for Kufri, it is situated around 2622 meters above sea level. Nestled in the foothills of Himalayas, Kufri once belonged to the Nepal Kingdom. In winters, you can try your hands at ice skating and skiing. The picturesque views are also breathtaking. It must be in every visitors list while coming to Shimla.

7. Chail

Famous for home to the highest cricket pitch in the world, Chail is a picturesque location outlined by lush green deodar and pine trees offering a perfect ambiance for a calm and serene stay. Chail is also famous for its architectural magnificence and as it is at a higher altitude than Shimla, one can enjoy the city lights when it gets dark in the evening.
